Circle of fifths, the cycle.
Or viewed counter clockwize the circle of fifths is the circle of fourths, since a perfect fourth is the inverted interval of perfect fifth. On a guitar the circle of fourths is easier to remember, because a standard tuned guitar is tuned in fourths, with the one exeption of the distance between string 2 and 3 which is a major third. That is, the strings is ordered in the following pattern - from the heavyer to the thinner strings: B-E-A-D-G-C-F-Bb-Eb-Ab-Db-Gb. Or more intuitively BEADG-CF-beadg.
